Love Stories | Alena and Ryan

alena & ryan

One of the sweetest most down to earth couples we have had the pleasure of creating for! We are beyond grateful to have witnessed the love these two share for one another over the past years! They  have trusted us with many pieces so words can't express how over the moon we were to create their wedding bands! Have a read through Alena and Ryan's love story and experience creating their heirloom jewellery with us!

tell us a bit about you and your love story!

Our love story started back at school, where we met each other at Wilfrid Laurier University. Ryan was on the hockey team and Alena was on the basketball team. One day, while Ryan was in the athletic therapy room, Alena stopped by to get the contact information for one of Ryan's teammates, and as Alena asked Ryan, Ryan countered by suggesting Alena share her number with him... 9 years later and we're still madly in love, with 3+ of the best months of marriage.

Ryan - for me, I knew it was forever within weeks of us dating as it just felt different and special, in the best way. I would say, although I knew it was forever, I did DRAG my feet on asking her to be my girlfriend (roughly 5 months of dating), but it was only because I already knew she was the one!

Alena - I think I knew really early on in our relationship, but a very defining moment for me was when my dad passed away. For obvious reasons it was a pivotal moment in my life and the only person I needed by my side other than my family was him. I remember looking Ryan in the eye and just knowing that he was going to be by my side for the rest of my life.

when and how did you pop the question, or when did you know you wanted to make your love official?

Ryan - I got on one knee and proposed to my wife on Sunday, December 1st, 2019 at Waterloo Park in Kitchener, Ontario. Years prior to this date, Alena and I visited the park to walk through the Christmas lights display, and it was during this trip where I told her I loved her for the first time - so the park has significance for us and now adds another chapter.

Alena - He was acting a little funny that day, but I thought he just wasn't feeling well ... turns out he was really nervous haha

how did you learn about and decide on Anice to create your love piece?

Alena - I've actually purchased several pieces from Anice prior to our wedding rings and have always loved every piece I have from there. When chatting with two of our best friends about where they were doing their wedding bands, they mentioned Anice and I knew right there that it was a sign for us to do the same!

No one else I would've trusted with my grandmother's ring.

what was the inspiration behind your love piece?

I wanted to use one of my Grandmother's anniversary rings that she got from my Grandfather. Originally my mom was saving it to pass along to Ryan to use for the engagement ring, but apparently he was too impatient and got the engagement ring himself, so my mom knew right away that it would be perfect to use for a wedding band!

describe your first impression of working with us. who did you work with and what was the process like?

Ryan - My first impression was excitement and a feeling of intrigue. We have heard wonderful things about Anice and the work your team does, so I was anxiously excited to begin the process. When Alena and I left the first consultation, we knew right away that Anice was the right place. We worked with Britt and Lacie and by far, the BEST people and experience working with them both - we received the guidance, friendship and support we were looking for, it felt natural and easy.

Alena - Echoing what Ryan said, we knew right away that we had found the perfect spot after our first meeting at the store. We knew that you would all take such care of the pieces and we wholeheartedly believed it would be amazing right from the start!

how did you feel when you finally received your love piece?

Ryan - words cannot describe how much we love the pieces. For me, the ring we decided on is a black tungsten with a brush finish; clean, simple and sharp. But for my wife's ring, it was something else and something special! To see what was created really left Alena and I speechless as it was something beyond what we envisioned, and it captured and transferred the love that was first within Alena's grandmother's ring.

Alena - I honestly didn't think I'd be as excited and overwhelmed with emotion as I was. The whole wedding planning process is a lot, so I think when we were picking it up we both assumed we were just checking another box by grabbing it, but we ended up making a little afternoon out of it. It was so incredible to see how you had transformed my Grandmother's ring to something that was special just for me!

what was the most memorable part of working with Anice?

Ryan - there isn't one defining moment for me, but more so the overall experience that was memorable. It was the first time Alena and I have ever done something like this and with so much behind the meaning of wedding bands, it can be a nerve-wracking experience in ensuring the rings are the RIGHT ones you want. At no point did I ever feel nervous, worrisome or even questioned our choice of Anice - the constant communication from Britt and Lacie and the guidance had my mind at peace, putting all the trust in their hands.

Alena - The connection we made with the individuals we worked with - from the email communications, to the appointments, to the pick-up, it was all so seamless and truly filled with love and joy. In the wedding planning process, with some vendors we very much felt like "just another wedding" to them, but at Anice, you all shared in the excitement and wonder with us, and made us feel so incredibly special.    THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
